Private AI

Why law firms need private AI

Public AI tools send client documents to third-party servers. A private AI assistant runs on your own server or in your country, so you can use AI and still respect professional secrecy, GDPR, Italy's Law 132/2025 and India's DPDP Act.

The problem with public AI tools

When a lawyer pastes a contract or a case file into a public chatbot, the text leaves the firm. It is processed on servers the firm does not control, often outside its country, under terms of service that can change. For most businesses that is a manageable risk. For a law firm, it touches the core of the profession: the duty to keep client information confidential.

What private AI changes

A private assistant runs where you decide:

  • On a server in your office. A compact machine installed in your firm. Documents never travel over the internet to be processed.
  • On a private server in your country. A dedicated server in a data center in Italy or India, used only by your firm.

In both cases:

  • Your documents, the search index and the logs stay on that infrastructure.
  • Your data is never used to train someone else's model.
  • Access follows your firm's permissions, and every question and answer is logged.

The rules that matter

This page is general information, not legal advice. Each firm should assess its own obligations.

Professional secrecy. In both Italy and India, lawyers must keep client information confidential. Keeping documents on infrastructure you control is the simplest way to stay in line with that duty when using AI.

GDPR (Italy and the EU). Client files contain personal data. Sending them to an AI provider means a processor relationship, and often a transfer outside the EU. A private assistant in your office or in Italy keeps processing inside your perimeter and inside the EU.

Italy's AI law (Law 132/2025). Italy's national AI law allows professionals to use AI for supporting activities only, with the professional's own intellectual work remaining prevalent. It also requires lawyers to tell clients clearly which AI systems they use. Our assistant is designed for exactly this: it supports, cites sources and leaves every decision to the lawyer, and its logs make it easy to describe your AI use to clients.

India's DPDP Act. The Digital Personal Data Protection Act, 2023 and the DPDP Rules, 2025 set duties for anyone processing personal data in India, with the main obligations applying from May 2027. Keeping processing on your own or in-country infrastructure makes those duties easier to meet and to document.

How we build in human oversight

  • Citations on every answer, linking to the exact passage in your documents
  • "I could not find this" instead of a guess when your documents do not contain the answer
  • Drafts, never final documents: the lawyer edits and approves
  • Audit trail of who asked what, when, and which documents were used

Frequently asked questions

What does "private AI" mean?

An AI assistant whose model, documents, index and logs all run on infrastructure the firm controls, either a server in the office or a dedicated server in the firm's own country. No data is sent to a public AI service.

Is a private assistant less capable than public chatbots?

For legal work on your own documents, open models running privately are now strong enough for review, search, summaries, drafting and translation. Grounding answers in your documents matters more than the size of the model.

Do we have to manage the server ourselves?

No. Bluebotica installs, monitors and updates it under a monthly care plan. Your IT person, if you have one, only needs to know where it is.

Can we prove to clients that their data stays private?

Yes. You can show where the server is, who has access and the audit log of every use. Many firms add a short paragraph on AI use to their engagement letter.

See it work on your own documents

Bring 20 to 30 anonymized documents. In a 45-minute session we show review, search and drafting on your real work.
