What it does

  • Plain-language questions across opinions, briefs, contracts, memos and emails
  • Answers with citations that open the exact page and paragraph
  • Precedent finder for your firm's own past positions on a clause or legal issue
  • Matter recall: "what did we agree with the counterparty on delivery terms last year?"
  • Multilingual search: ask in English, find documents in Italian, and the reverse

An example workflow

  1. A partner asks: "Show me our last three opinions on termination for convenience in agency contracts."
  2. The assistant returns a short answer and three opinions from 2021, 2023 and 2025, with the relevant paragraphs highlighted.
  3. The partner opens the 2025 opinion, reuses the structure and asks the assistant to draft an update for the new facts.

Privacy: your archive is indexed on your own infrastructure. The index, the documents and the questions never leave your firm.

Why it matters

Small and mid-size firms hold years of valuable work that is hard to find. Making it searchable turns your archive into a knowledge base, especially useful when senior lawyers are busy or have moved on. It pairs naturally with case-file summaries.

Frequently asked questions

How is this different from the search in our document management system?

Keyword search needs the right words. AI search understands the question, so "have we argued that a non-compete was too broad in a sales agent contract?" finds the brief even if it never uses those exact words.

Which file types can it read?

Word, PDF (including scanned PDFs with text recognition), emails exported from your mail system, and plain text. We agree the sources with you during setup.

Does it respect who can see what?

Yes. Access follows your existing permissions, so a lawyer only gets answers from documents they are allowed to open.

Can it invent sources?

Every answer is built from documents in your archive and links to them. If nothing relevant is found, it says so rather than guessing.
